Repairs & fault finding
Electrical repairs and fault finding in your area
Tripping breakers, dead power points, burning smells. We find the cause, fix it properly and tell you what happened in plain words.
Overview
The short version
Most electrical faults have a boring cause: a loose connection, a failed appliance, water where it shouldn't be. Finding it quickly is the skill, and it's what saves you money.
Bryce fault-finds with test gear, not by replacing parts until something works. You get a straight explanation of what was wrong and what he did about it, in plain words, so you know what you paid for.
If something is dangerous, you'll be told what to switch off while you wait. If it can wait until morning, you'll be told that too.

Pricing
What affects the price
Every job is quoted as a fixed price before work starts. These are the things that move it up or down — tell us about them and the quote will be closer to the mark.
- How long the fault takes to trace — a dead power point is quick, an intermittent trip can take longer
- Parts needed: a new safety switch, breaker, power point or fitting
- Access — switchboards in easy reach versus wiring in a roof or under a floor
- Whether the repair uncovers older work that needs bringing up to standard

FAQs
Repairs & fault finding: common questions
My safety switch keeps tripping. What should I do?
Unplug everything on that circuit, reset the switch, then plug things back in one at a time. If it trips with nothing plugged in, or you cannot find the cause, call us. Do not keep resetting it.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
We quote a fixed price for the diagnosis up front, and tell you the repair cost before doing it. No surprises on the invoice.
Can you come the same day?
Often, yes. Call rather than email for anything urgent. If it is a safety issue, we will tell you what to switch off while you wait.
Is a discoloured or warm power point dangerous?
Yes. It usually means a loose connection heating up. Switch it off at the board if you can and have it looked at as soon as possible.
Can you fix a ceiling fan that's stopped working?
Yes. It's usually the capacitor or the wall controller, both quick fixes. If the motor has gone we'll tell you whether a replacement fan makes more sense.
The power point works but the light in the same room doesn't. Why?
Lights and power points are on different circuits in most homes, so one can fail while the other keeps going. Check the switchboard for a tripped breaker first; if it's not that, call and we'll trace it.
“Bryce was very responsive to my initial request. He was punctual to the times communicated to me and he explained every part of the issue and the process in laymen's terms so people like myself with not a lot of electrical knowledge understood thoroughly. He is genuine and honest and my job was completed in a timely manner and at reasonable price. I have no hesitation at all in recommending Bryce from BE Electrical & Automation to anyone in need of an electrician. Thanks Bryce, I'll certainly utilise your services again if I'm in the need of any electrical work.”
