EV charger installation

EV charger installation in your area

A dedicated circuit and a proper wall charger, so you wake up to a full battery instead of waiting on a power point.

Draft — confirm with Bryce that this service is offered before publishing.

Overview

The short version

Charging from a normal power point works, but slowly — often eight hours or more for a modest top-up. A dedicated wall charger on its own circuit fills most cars overnight and, paired with solar, can run largely off your own roof.

Bryce checks your switchboard's spare capacity before quoting anything. Some homes need a load-management device or a board upgrade first; you'll know that up front, not on the day.

The install is weatherproofed for carports and driveways, tested, and comes with a certificate of compliance for your records and insurer.

Pricing

What affects the price

Every job is quoted as a fixed price before work starts. These are the things that move it up or down — tell us about them and the quote will be closer to the mark.

  • Distance from the switchboard to the parking spot and how the cable gets there
  • Single-phase (7 kW) versus three-phase (up to 22 kW) supply
  • Whether you supply the charger or Bryce sources one
  • Load management or a switchboard upgrade if the board is near capacity
  • Outdoor mounting, conduit and any trenching

Time on site

Two to four hours when the board is close to the car. Longer cable runs or a board upgrade take a day.

FAQs

EV charger installation: common questions

Can my switchboard handle an EV charger?

Most modern boards can. Older boards may need an upgrade or a load-management device. We check before quoting so there are no surprises.

Which charger should I buy?

A 7kW single-phase charger suits most homes. If you have three-phase power a 22kW unit is an option. We will recommend based on your car and your board.

How long does installation take?

Typically two to four hours if the board is close to the parking spot. Longer runs take a bit more.

Can I use the charger with my solar?

Yes, many chargers can be set to charge only from excess solar. Tell us your inverter brand and we will match a charger to it.

Do I need three-phase power for an EV charger?

No. Single-phase 7 kW is fine for daily driving. Three-phase makes sense if you already have it, or you regularly need a full charge in a couple of hours.

Can the charger be installed outside?

Yes. Most home chargers are rated for outdoor use. Bryce mounts them under cover where possible and uses weatherproof conduit and fittings either way.

“I engaged the services of BE Electrical recently and was very impressed! Their technician (Bryce) arrived on time, was well presented and got the job done in a timely manner. He even cleaned up afterwards! I would have no hesitation in recommending BE Electrical to anyone!”
