Home security

Home security cameras and alarms in your area

Cameras, alarms and intercoms you can check from your phone. Installed cleanly, set up properly, explained in plain English.

Overview

The short version

Home security is what Bryce does most and enjoys most. Cameras, alarms, intercoms and smart locks that work together and that you can check from your phone wherever you are.

The difference between a system that gets used and one that gets ignored is the setup. Cables hidden properly, cameras aimed where they matter, the app on your phone with notifications tuned so you're not pinged by every passing cat.

Before he leaves, Bryce walks you through the whole system. If you forget something a month later, call and he'll talk you through it again.

Pricing

What affects the price

Every job is quoted as a fixed price before work starts. These are the things that move it up or down — tell us about them and the quote will be closer to the mark.

  • Number of cameras and whether they're wired (PoE) or wireless
  • Recording: local hard drive (no ongoing cost) or cloud subscription
  • Cable runs — single storey with roof access is quicker than double storey or brick
  • Adding an alarm, intercom or smart lock to the same system
  • Whether an existing alarm or camera system can be reused or upgraded

Time on site

A four-camera wired system is typically a day. Alarm installs and doorbell/intercom swaps are usually a half day.

FAQs

Home security: common questions

Wired or wireless cameras?

Wired (PoE) cameras are more reliable, record in higher quality and never need charging. We recommend them for most homes. Wireless suits spots where cabling is impossible.

Can I watch the cameras on my phone?

Yes. Every system we install comes with an app. Bryce sets it up on your phone and shows you how it works before he leaves.

Do you install alarms too?

Yes. New alarm systems, and upgrades or repairs to existing ones where parts are still available.

How many cameras do I need?

Most homes are covered by three to five: front door, driveway, back yard and any side access. We will walk the property with you and recommend a layout.

Is my footage stored in the cloud?

Your choice. Local recording to a hard drive in the house costs nothing ongoing. Cloud storage is available if you want off-site backup.

Will the cameras work at night?

Yes. All systems Bryce installs have infrared night vision, and colour night vision is available on most models if you want it.

Can you install a video doorbell on a rental?

Wired doorbells need the owner's OK. Battery doorbells can usually be fitted without drilling into anything that matters — ask and we'll suggest the least invasive option.

“We would recommend BE Electrical to any of our friends or someone who needs an electrician. Bryce has helped us out on now three different occasions, and he was on time every time, nothing was a problem for him to solve. Bryce’s work is professional and tidy. If you are looking for an electrician, BE Electrical is the one to call.”
